Activities to do in Western Uganda : The western part of Uganda is popular for tours around the country and it is also known for its stunning landscapes and numerous attractions.

There are also different national parks which can be visited during tours around western Uganda and they include Bwindi national park, Mgahinga national park, Queen Elizabeth national park, Semuliki national park, Kibale forest national park, Rwenzori mountains national park, Lake Mburo national park.

Some of the activities which can be done around western Uganda include the following;

  1. Game drives

Game drives around the national parks in western Uganda involve the search for the different wildlife species and it can be done in the morning, afternoon and in the night.

Some of the wildlife species which can be seen during game drives include elephants, lions, leopards, buffalos, hippos, zebras, giraffes, impalas, waterbucks, hartebeests, Uganda kobs, hyenas, warthogs among others.

Game drives around Queen Elizabeth national park can be done in different parts of the park such as Kasenyi plains, Mweya peninsular and also around the Ishasha sector which is known for being home to tree climbing lions.

Game drives in Lake Mburo national park can also be done in the night in search of the nocturnal wildlife species. Tourists can also explore the savannah plains at the destination during morning and afternoon game drives at the destination.

In western Uganda, chimpanzee trekking can be done around Kibale forest national park and also in the Kyambura gorge in Queen Elizabeth national park. During chimpanzee trekking, tourists get to search for the chimpanzees and observe them in their natural habitat and spend 1 hour with them.

Golden monkey trekking is another activity to do during tours around western Uganda and it is carried out in Mgahinga national park.

When visiting Mgahinga national park, tourists can spend time with the rare golden monkeys and observe them in their natural habitat. This activity takes about 2 to 4 hours and involves watching the golden monkeys and can also involve hiking through the steep slopes at the destination.

The cost of golden monkey trekking permits is 60 USD excluding park entrance fees while the golden monkey habituation experience costs 100 USD per person when visiting Mgahinga national park during tours in western Uganda.

Western Uganda is a region known for its stunning beauty and for the hilly nature of the surroundings in the region.

Some of the popular hiking destinations include Mount Rwenzori also known and mountains of the moon, Mount Gahinga, Mount Sabyinyo, Mount Muhabura.
