Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary is managed by the organisation called Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust, located about 23 kilometres offshore from Entebbe in Lake Victoria Uganda. The island measures 100 acres in size and boosts with over 50 vegetation types where chimpanzees do feed on. Their feeding is supplemented daily with fruits and vegetables and this is the time when visitors are invited to get involved in the feeding and also to enjoy photographic moments. On the visiting day, Visitors and staffs stand at the viewing platforms to have rewardable sights of which they can feed them which is an exciting experience in life time.

1 Day Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary

One Day to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary can be a full or half day chimpanzee tour. The trip starts from Entebbe by either a speed boat or a traditional boat depending on weather. The speed boat takes only 45 minutes while the traditional boat fixed with an engine takes about 1:30 hours to access the Island.

On arrival to Ngamba Island, visitors are given an orientation talk at the interpretation centre. Then after, visitors will move to the viewing platform to observe the chimp during their supplementary feeding times facilitated by the animal keepers, chimpanzees come out from the forest at the designated feeding hours. They are accustomed to the feeding times and will get close to the fence for supplementary feeding. If the care givers delay to give them fruits and vegetables, noises will be heard from the chimps as though to remind the care givers of feeding time. After giving them want to eat, you are free to view the Island’s visitor’s area and enjoy the facilities.

We advise you not to forget to carry your camera and pack it in a water proof polythene bag because there are high chances of water contact while on this trip. The Island is also a haven for birders consider carrying your binoculars just in case you’re interested in bird watching. Visit Ngamba Island and enjoy close up-shots of chimps as they feed. After, you will board a speed boat to take you back to the mainland to be dropped at your hotel or Entebbe Airport to catch up your flight or to your place of residence.
