About Mbarara District : Mbarara City is a city in the Western Region of Uganda and the second largest city in Uganda after Kampala. The city is divided into 6 divisions of Kakoba Division, Kamukuzi Division, Nyamitanga Division, Biharwe Division, Kakiika Division, Nyakayojo Division.
It is the heart of commercial activities for south western districts of Uganda and the site of economic prospect.
In May 2019, the Uganda’s cabinet granted Mbarara a city status, which started on 1 July 2020.Mbarara.
Mbarara, town located in southwestern Uganda. It is situated 167 miles (270 km) southwest of Kampala at an elevation of about 4,850 feet (1,480 metres) and is linked by road with Kikagati, Bushenyi, and Masaka.
Mbarara is ethnically diverse and the dominant tribes are The Banyankole are the main tribe in the city. However, there is also a big number of Bakiga, Baganda, Batooro, Banyoro, Congolese, Rwandese, Langi and Basoga, among others. The main economic activity of the Ankole is cattle keeping and agricultur
The town is located in a forest region and is known for its crafts, including wood carving, pottery making, and weaving.
Industries produce textiles, soap, oils and fats, beverages, processed food, rope and twine, and plywood.
The surrounding area was part of the historical Ankole kingdom. Mbarara has several churches and the residence, on a nearby hill, of the former bishop of Ankole. There also is an airfield.

Mbarara’s population has been steadily growing since 2002, the national census estimated the population of the town at 69,400. The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) estimated the population at 82,000 in 2010. In 2011, UBOS estimated the mid-year population at 83,700.In August 2014, the national population census put the population at 195,013. And the 2020 statistics showed population as 221,300 with an increase of 13.3% Which is a steady population growth.
