Gorilla trekking is one of the best selling activities in East Africa and in the whole world. In Uganda gorilla trekking can be conducted in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park and they are all found in south west region of Uganda.

Gorilla Trekking

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is forest reserve that was gazetted in 1942 and later in 1992 it was upgraded as a National Park. It became established as world heritage site in 1994. This National Park is on lowland covering area of 331 square kilometer and half of land is home for mountain gorillas of over 440 species of primates. It is amongst most famous rainforests any one will wish to visit, with the average range altitude of 1447 meter above sea level.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is best known of its outstanding gorilla trekking that runs throughout the year and mountain gorillas are inhabited in four sectors including Buhoma, Nkuringo, Rushaga and Ruhija all are under protection of Uganda Wildlife Authority. 13 groups of mountain gorilla families have been habituated and only 8 tourists book per a group per day. The park is one of the oldest and it has become the UNESCO world heritage.

Gorilla trekking can also be carried out in Mgahinga National Park that is next to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and are both found in the same region. Mgahinga is bordered with Congo and Rwanda and it’s on a low land covering of about 33.7 square kilometers.

Mgahinga National Park is one of the leading gorilla safari in Uganda where one wishes to visit the gorilla’s world. Mgahinga National park is the smallest park which is nature habitats for gorillas that can be found in think rainforest with wide variety of tree species that contain vegetables which are food for over 300 mountain gorillas. Since it is bordered with different countries the number of mountain gorillas migrates from Rwanda and Congo to Mgahinga National Park because of its nature forest with variety of vegetable which is the favorite food to gorillas.

The park was formed to protect the rare mountain gorillas that inhabits its dense forest and it is also an important habitat for the endangered golden monkeys. Tourists who are interested in gorilla trekking can trek them in four sectors of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Mgahinga National park which is home of mountain gorillas. Gorilla trekking can be done at accost of $600 and they can be able to view volcanoes and gorges with the cool breeze of freshness, visiting the famous garama cava that are located near the park headquarters. Mgahinga became world heritage site in 1992 and is managed by the Uganda world life authority.

Tourist who are interested in gorilla trekking that can only be done in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park and Mgahinga gorilla national park which are situated in southwestern region of Uganda which takes 8 hours & 47 minutes drive from Kampala to the main destination. You can as well fly to and from to reduce driving time which takes only 3 hours and 20 minutes from Entebbe Airport to Kisoro Airstrip and the panoramic view of Kampala is interesting.
