Things to do in Northern Uganda : Well, you can do a lot of things in Northern Uganda, it’s your time and preference that will cut you out. Northern Uganda is definitely the north side of the country from your compass and it consists distrists like Gulu, Kitgum, Arua, Apac, Nebbi, Yumbe, Terego, Oyam, Moroto, Kaabong and a number of others.
And in all these districts you have take time and visit them for an experience like no other. Though the most known national parks in this area are Kidepo National Park and Murchison Falls National Park (in the north western part of the country) there are so many activities you can do in this part of Uganda. So, in this article we share some things you can do when you visit any of the parts of northern Uganda.
- Game drives to see wildlife.
You can visit Kidepo National Park in kitgum and Murchison Falls National Park (in the northwestern part of the country) for game drives to see the wildlife. The animals you will see include but are not limited to lions, elephants, cheetahs, leopards, girraffes, buffaloes, waterbucks, elands, antelopes, impalas and many more. - Bird watching
You can also go bird watching in either of those parks mentioned above to see the different birds in the area. The region is known to have over 1000 birds and you can see them everywhere even outside the park.
- City tours
In most of these districts (mentioned in the introduction) you can have a city tour, where you see the locals and engage with them. visit markets, community centers, several monumental places among other things. In Nebbi Christians always visit the smallest church in that region, its very exciting and monumental.
- Scenery tour and adventure
Scenery tour and adventure will take you walks in the different districts to see the landscape and surrounding plus experience the region. Some of the places you may visit include Aruu Falls, koro falls, Kaniyo Pabidi area, the mountain rocks in moroto and many more areas. Northern Uganda doesn’t have a lot plantations but you can adventure in the smaller villages where you will see the local housing the huts, see the local food storage facilities, sometimes you will find crunches of land with food gardens among other things. Interesting fact if you are using the Kampala-Gulu Highway you will have an enjoyable drive with very scenic views along the way, most outstanding being the karuma falls.
- Community visits
Here you take of time to explore different communities in the region. On these tours you get to experience the different cultures, in terms of language, food, dances, songs, extra circular activities and many other things. Most popular communities people visit in the north are the ike people and the karamajong.
- Visiting cultural centers
Like the acholi cultural centre, the gulu Museum and many others you can visit them to learn about the different cultures, history of the people of northern Uganda, at some centers you will also enjoy several cultural performances, local songs and dances and many things.
- Attend festivals
In a year there are a lot of festivals that happen in the region in the different cities, so you can plan to attend any of them and enjoy the fun with the locals; experience how they do their festivals.
