8 Days Rwanda-Uganda Safari : This 8 days Uganda Rwanda Safari will take you to two stunning destinations in East Africa. Tha is Uganda and Rwanda.
Day 1: Pick-up in Kigali and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable national park.
Depending on your location in Kigali, you will meet your safari driver and transfer to Bwindi national park. The park is located in the south-western part of the Uganda close to Rwanda border, it’s a 4-5 hours’ drive with en route lunch. On arrival to the park, you will proceed and check in your lodge for relaxation. Dinner and overnight stay at Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge for mid-range option /Rushaga Haven Lodge for budget
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking experience.
Have breakfast and transfer you to park offices for briefing about Mountain Gorilla trekking by a local guide. The time taken is usually between 2-8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. Meeting the gorillas unexpectedly is one of the most captivating lifetime experiences. You will have a chance to observe and take pictures at very close range. You will observe adults feeding and groaning among themselves. After an hour with the long-awaited gorillas, your guide and rangers will lead you back to the starting point where your driver will readily be waiting for you to return to the lodge. Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes national park
After breakfast, meet your driver and cross back to Rwanda to connect to Volcanoes national park. Upon arrival in Musanze with en-route lunch, you will visit the Dian fossey Museum before you check-in at your booked lodge for dinner and overnight at Le Bambou Gorilla lodge for mid-range/Hotel Mubaura for budget
Day 4: Hike to Mount Karisimbi – Volcanoes national park
After breakfast, you will connect to park headquarters with your hiking gears for a briefing about the activity as early as 7am, you will then be allocated the ranger guides and you head for the hike. Karisimbi volcano is the highest of the 8 Mount peaks of Virunga conservation region. The hike to the summit offers spectacular and magnificent views of different volcanoes including Nyiragongo and Nyamulagira volcanoes. The hike is strenuous and challenging so you need to be physically fit to do this hike. This is a 6 hours hike with great views different bird species and primates. On reaching at an altitude of about 3700m, you will stop at the first camping site where you will spend a night.
Day 5: Reach the Summit, descend
After early morning cup of coffee, embark on an hour’s hike to the summit. At this level the hike is very steep going through trials of thick jungles surrounded by stunning scenery. On reaching at the summit, enjoy amazing views of the surrounding areas like mount Muhabura. After enjoying your time at the summit descent to the starting point where you will meet your driver readily waiting to receive you and return to your lodge to rest. Day 6: Transfer to Nyungwe forest national park
After breakfast at your lodge check-out and embark on your journey to Nyungwe forest national park. It’s a 6-7 hours’ drive with en-route stops for sight-seeing and lunch. Dinner and overnight stay at Nyungwe Top Hill Lodge for mid-range/Gisakura Visitors centre for budget option
Day 7: Chimpanzee tracking and Canopy walkway
Enjoy breakfast and go for briefing about the endangered chimpanzees before entering the forest in search of the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest. The Chimpanzees are much easier to spot as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimpanzee tracking usually takes about 3 hours. On finding them, spend an hour while taking pictures and videos. You will then return to your accommodation for lunch.
After lunch, you will go on a walking trail that will take you to the Canopy Walk-a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees. You will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay at lodge as above
Day 8: Kigali city tour – Departure
Enjoy breakfast at leisure, meet your driver and transfer back to Kigali. Depending on your flight schedule, you will visit the Kigali genocide memorial and Kimironko market and have lunch before you are dropped at the airport for your onward flight back home.
